Pruitt Igoe Now
Submission Deadline: March 16, 2012
The Pruitt and Igoe housing projects in St. Louis, MO, can represent many different things: the naïveté of 1950s modernist civic design, the urban decay of the 1960s, and the legacy of poor planning into the next century. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the demolition of these ill-fated highrises, and non-profit Pruitt Igoe Now invites academics, architects, students, landscape architects, urban planners, writers, historians and artists to reimagine the relationship between the site of the former projects and the rest of the city. Winning submissions will inspire new ideas for the site, with the top three nabbing cash prizes. Winners and runners-up will be exhibited at a symposium in April 2012, hosted by Portland State University.
EBie Awards: Sustainable Design for Existing Buildings
Submission Deadline: March 30, 2012

Produced by the Urban Green Council, USGBC New York, the EBies (named for the existing buildings they recognize) award outstanding performance improvements made to previously built structures from coast to coast. If you would like to submit a building retrofit to improve its performance and enhance its sustainability, please visit the website for a list of categories and more details on the competition.
