From June 12 to 14, Chicago’s Merchandise Mart was packed with a plethora of new, innovative and eye-catching solutions for office spaces. Here are five launches we’re excited about.

QuickStand Under Desk by Humanscale
To help free up space on the work surface, Humanscale has added an under-desk version of their sit/stand repertoire. With the counterbalance mechanism housed in a central column that now sits below the surface, users can transition seamlessly from one position to the next while desktops remain unobstructed. The device can be positioned at multiple height levels and can be fitted with the brand’s monitor arms to support single or dual screens.

ColourForm Sofa Group by Herman Miller
Amsterdam duo Carole Baijings and Stefan Scholten (Scholten & Baijings) have built a robust portfolio bursting with a unique tension of colour and pattern, surface and form. For their first seating series for the U.S. brand, the pair expresses that signature symmetry through a geometry of shapes in a sophisticated yet fresh palette.

The sofas’ slender wooden frames support an inviting arrangement of cushions and pillows, and can be stained to match the upholstery for a cohesive appearance. The textiles themselves – Tracery and Pare for Maharam – read as monochromatic from afar but are superbly detailed and textural up close. The lounge collection includes two- and three-seater and S-shaped sofas, as well as a club chair, ottoman, bench and sectional.

Encryption by Milliken
Exploiting the aesthetics of technology, this modular carpet system is defined by pixelated colour blocks that interweave shadow and light. The intricately detailed motif was achieved through a proprietary high-definition digital dye injection technology that results in a pseudo-random pattern. Two complementary patterns are available in 25-centimetre-by-1-metre planks. Ideal for high-traffic commercial and hospitality environments, the tiles are backed with Milliken’s standard PVC-free open-cell cushion, so the flooring prevents mould and mildew growth.

Nuez Chair by Andreu World
Design powerhouse Patricia Urquiola was on-hand at NeoCon 2017 to introduce Nuez, her versatile chair for Andreu World. Playing with the idea of a folded sheet of paper, the generous seat features pleated corners and a combination of materials – an injected thermoplastic shell and supportive upholstered seat.

A repeating ribbed detail on the exterior gives a sense of movement, which can be heightened when the interior is covered with a fabric specifically designed by Urquiola for Nuez and that features bands running in the same orientation as the ridges. The chair is available in four base options – four wooden legs, aluminum four-star, five casters or cantilever – 10 shell colourways and multiple upholstery options.

Transcend by Skyline Design
Textile designer Suzanne Tick brings her award-winning vision to architectural glass with six etched and printed patterns that complement the transitional nature of today’s work environment. With a neutral colour palette inspired by variations found in concrete, marble and weathered metal, the three fading geometrics – Angled Mesh, Shift Grid and Lineal Fade – and three technical textures – Disperse, Diffuse and Integrate – can standalone, intersect or overlap to create dynamic and varying levels of privacy and exposure.

Available in sizes up to 152 centimetres by 305 centimetres, the patterns are offered as transparent, translucent and opaque and can be customized for scale and colour.
