On January 16, over 100,000 designers, manufacturers, buyers, and press will descend onto the Koelnmesse exhibition centre for IMM Cologne, one of the world’s most prestigious international furnishing shows. With more than 1,150 companies from 54 participating countries, there’s much to see in new products, trends and innovations. Here’s our list of what are sure to be the top hits.

1 Brilliant products

Poltrona Frau, B&B Italia and Grohe are among the top names that will be launching new products and furnishings at IMM. Here are a few collections we’re excited about:

German manufacturer Flötotto presents Pro, a colourful new chair line by Konstantin Grcic exhibited in a display by Italian photographer Oliviero Toscani.

Richard Lampert presents his Living Outdoor products by designers Eric Degenhardt, Bertjan Pot and Alexander Seifried, who will be on-hand to discuss the collection.

Minotti takes centre stage with Minotti Design Identity, an exhibit coordinated by Rodolfo Dordoni and featuring his popular works including the Allen and Donovan soft seating, the sleek Claydon table, the snug Jensen armchair and the Tatlin bed.

Italy’s Kristalia presents a new selection of shelving, seating and tables by Christophe Pillet, Ka-Lai Chan, Patrick Norguet, LucidiPevere, Neuland and Bartoli Design.

2 Boulevard of Innovations

The who’s who of the furniture industry will head to resto-lounge Alter Wartesaal for IMM’s opening party on Monday evening. There, winners of the Interior Innovation Award, a competition celebrating the show’s most ingenious products, will be named before taking their rightful place on the show floor on the Boulevard of Innovations.

3 Das Haus

Designers-of-the-moment Doshi Levien have created this year’s dreamy living space. In the centre of Pure Village hall, on a 180-square-metre platform, the London duo furnish a house with such pieces as their My Beautiful Backside sofa and Principessa bed – expressing their ideal interior and exterior space. Read more about the installation here.

4 [D3] Design Talents

In its ninth year, this feature exhibit presents projects by 32 young designers who have won IMM’s student and graduate design competition, the [D3] Contest. The winners are selected from over 650 submissions received from 11 countries. In the [D3] Professionals area, emerging designers and studios showcase their innovative products and prototypes.

5 Design Post

Over the last five years, top manufacturers from across Europe have set up permanent showrooms in the former parcel post building adjacent to Koelnmesse, exhibiting furniture all year round. Magis, Moooi, Kvadrat and Moroso are among the 34 designer brands presented here.

IMM Cologne runs until Sunday, January 22 at Koelnmesse in Germany.
