Come Up To My Room, the alternative design event, took place at Toronto's historic Gladstone Hotel this weekend. This author's favourite? Laura McKibbon and Jasna Sokolovic's bathroom overhaul.

Come Up To My Room is always a fun way to spend an afternoon. Even if you don't love every installation, the fruits of Toronto's independant design scene always spark a discussion or two and leave you feeling inspired to grab a hammer.

My favourite was definitely Laura McKibbon and Jasna Sokolovic's bathroom installation. The room featured a bathroom, toilet and sink filled with moss and simple ceramic birds. Hanging ceramic droplets gave it the feeling of a magical garden.

Here's what the artists have to say:

"This project creates an unexpected environment within a familiar space by turning the proverbial outhouse inside out. Using trees, grass and wildlife, the sanctuary-like quality inherent in a bathroom is even more heightened."

Magical sanctuary aside, there was something delightfully creepy about the room as well: walking into the room I somehow felt like I was walking into a dream from Twin Peaks.
