Orbital by Bomma

Evoking the forms and movement of the solar system, Bomma‘s Orbital collection was one of many space-inspired designs launched at Light + Building this year. Each piece joins two pieces of blown glass with an elegant metal ring. These celestial forms curve into a lens at the centre of each vertically hug circular form, to imitate space-time distortion as well as highlight the beauty of the blown glass.

Jack O’Lantern by Brokis

Inspired by the way carved pumpkins welcome passersby, Jack O’ Lantern is one of several new designs art director Lucie Koldova has launched with Brokis this year. The versatile series suspends matte glass globes in diamond-shaped metals frames, in dark chrome or brass.

Spharae by Studio Dechem

These colourful suspension lamps by Prague-based glass specialists Studio Dechem combine a simple, transparent glass globe with a metal cylinder, with three tiny brass balls used as the finishing detail. The hand-blown glass spheres measure 20 centimetres wide and are made in various tints and gradients. They’re paired with grey textile cable.

T-Cotta by Hind Rabi

Available in four sizes, ranging from the ultra-wide 500-millimetre TCR (far left), to the 166-millimetre TC1, this collection from Belgian studio Hind Rabi features glossy white glass, which juxtaposes with ceramic tops in natural terracotta, pastel colours.

Filipa by Tooy

Resembling an old-fashioned birdcage swing as much as the traditional Chinese lanterns it’s modelled after, Filipa from Italian brand Tooy Collection is made with a unique bi-dimensional structure. The light source perches inside a soft-cornered frame that is standard sand grey on the inside, and offered in a variety of powdercoated colours on the outside. It’s also made in an even more distinctive two-toned leather-wrapped version.
