Ryerson Urban Water will host the “Implementing Green Infrastructure: Building a Community of Practice” workshop on June 18-19, 2018 at Ryerson University. This workshop aims to advance green infrastructure and low impact development (LID) by gathering interdisciplinary groups to collaborate and resolve obstacles to implementation.

Cross-practitioner discussion is a game changer. Engineers and architects need to work with landscape architects at the planning stage and incorporate green infrastructure in designs for site and landscape plans, rather than an after-thought following building siting or designs for stormwater management infrastructure.

There are many examples of green infrastructure demonstrations and big picture thinking. However, uptake has been slower than required to achieve government policy and climate change requirements. Governance and local conditions are perceived to be the only barriers, yet lessons can be learned from successful projects.

This workshop will generate a new form of interdisciplinary practice specifically designed to address these challenges.
