As part of the Lithuanian Season in France 2024, arc en rêve collaborated with the architecture, art and research collective Neringa Forest Architecture (NFA / Jurga Daubaraitė, Egija Inzule and Jonas Žukauskas), to present an exhibition in the form of a playful landscape. It is dedicated to the multiple stories, practices and processes that have shaped and continue to shape the forest(s) of Landes de Gascogne, in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Presented in the white gallery of arc en rêve, Les pièces de la forêt consists of a set of tools and tactile games for young and old, made from samples of wood from private and public pine monocultures, as well as other forests, with greater biodiversity. These elements are combined with industrially processed wooden objects.

The Landes forest is presented as a mosaic of practices and techniques related to its management and preservation. Drawing on the methods developed for the Children’s Forest Pavilion (Lithuania’s contribution to the 2023 Venice Architecture Biennale), which focused on tactility and play as educational tools, the NFA collective traces the history of Europe’s largest artificial forest, while inviting the public to reflect on its future in the face of climate change.

The exhibition is accompanied by workshops and educational activities offering school groups the chance to discover areas made inaccessible by the control of the timber industry. This approach promotes the involvement of the general public – particularly the youngest – in thinking about the future of forest areas.
