The University of Toronto’s Department of Design and Engineering offers a unique opportunity to be involved with the coordination of a diverse range of project types within a diverse range of buildings (e.g. heritage, medical labs). The Department’s projects involve renovations to existing buildings with construction budgets which typically range from $300K to $3M. The goal of the Department is to create innovative solutions to the challenges of incorporating new and changing needs within existing infrastructure which will ultimately contribute to enhancing the built environment for faculty, students and staff in support of the University’s mission. The Architectural Co-ordinator will enhance the team’s ability to realize this long term goal by providing technical architectural and contract administration (CA) support for the department’s Architects as well as administrative support to the Director.
Under the general direction of the Director, Design & Engineering, the Architectural Co-ordinator provides administrative support by assisting with tracking project data and preparing monthly project status reports. In addition, this position will assist with preparation of sub-consultant Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and will prepare related purchase order request documents for processing by others and agreement packages for approval and issuance.
Under the personal supervision and direction of the department’s Project Architects, the Co-ordinator provides project-related support as required during the design, design development and the contract document preparation phases of construction projects. In consultation with the Architects, the Coordinator works independently in all aspects of contract administration (CA) document preparation, document tracking, record keeping, construction site review and report preparation. In addition, this position may assist with preparation of presentation materials and/or independently produce drawings or sketches for the Architects using AutoCAD and 3-D drafting software.
Completion of a 3-Year Advanced Diploma from a recognized Architectural Technologist Program and a member in good standing with the Association of Architectural Technologists of Ontario, or an Intern Architect with the OAA possessing a professional degree in Architecture.
Must have a minimum eight (8) years’ demonstrated experience in an architectural office independently undertaking a full range of architectural duties including client liaison, drawing preparation and coordination as well as demonstrated experience independently undertaking contract administration (CA) and construction site review activities.
Must demonstrate a full understanding of building science, construction materials, construction methods/techniques and architectural detailing as well as the impacts of the architectural design and design changes on engineering disciplines and the construction process. Must have good working knowledge of the Ontario Building Code, applicable statutes, regulations and by-laws.
Skills: Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, MS Project), advanced proficiency in AutoCAD 2013 and intermediate proficiency in 3D modelling software (e.g. Sketch-up). Proficiency with Powerpoint, Photoshop and InDesign is an asset.Must have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written) with a strong sense of diplomacy and ability to work in a team environment as well as independently.Must demonstrate sound judgement and good reasoning skills.
Other: Demonstrated ability to show initiative and commitment to follow through on tasks and to problem-solve and handle issues with tact. Must have exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, as well as the ability to work accurately and effectively under pressure to meet competing deadlines on multiple projects.

Appointment Type: Budget – Continuing
Pay Scale Group and Hiring Rate: USW Pay Band 12 — $64,440 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $82,408. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
