The Director of Graphic Design is a leadership role tasked with leading our Design team in the creation of institutional and marketing collateral to distinguish the Brooklyn Museum as the most diverse, creative, and exciting museum in the world.


  • BFA in graphic design or a related field
  • Minimum of 8–10 years of experience in graphic design; experience working within arts and culture is a plus
  • Creative thinker with expertise in visual communication design and branding structures
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage and prioritize work, resources, schedules, and budgets
  • High attention to detail and excellent communication skills
  • Advanced typographic skills
  • Team player, willing to collaborate with people across all departments
  • Interest and willingness to keep up-to-date on current trends in design, art, culture, and technology
  • Advanced skills in Adobe Creative Suite CC (Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and lnDesign/InCopy)
  • Knowledge of Adobe After Effects, HTML, and CSS a plus


  • Provide creative direction to evolve, strategize, and maintain our visual identity across multiple platforms, including institutional identity components, print and digital marketing materials, and building signage and wayfinding
  • Oversee workflows between the Design team and other departments, ensuring that high-quality projects are delivered on time and on budget
  • Demonstrate creative solutions and ideas with excellent design and typography skills
  • Provide leadership for and mentoring of the Design team, fostering an inspiring, collaborative, and educational work environment
  • Develop new materials for fundraising to elevate our institutional identity and attract new donors
  • Conduct ongoing research to integrate new design practices, technology, and trends into institutional materials
  • Foster outside creative partnerships with vendors, graphic designers, and fabricators

Schedule: 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 9 am–5 pm
