Special Projects is a product design and invention studio based in London. We work with global clients and startups to completely reimagine new products and experiences, from apps and services to physical products. We are firm believers in user centered design processes and create magical designs and achieve clarity in all of our projects.

We are looking for an energetic and experimental Graphic Designer to join our team.

You will need to be flexible and driven by a desire to constantly learn new skills and work in different fields. In the last year we have designed a new theme park, reinvented perfume for the future and worked on making hospital experiences less stigmatising.

We are looking for someone with passion and strong skills for visual design across different media: our projects spread across print, product, packaging and brand identity to projects for screens, and mobile devices.

Check out our work here:

UI Design – you can design contemporary looking apps and websites and are aware of the trends in digital design. You have experience with wireframes and can transform your designs into interactive prototypes using packages such as InVision or Marvel. You can also brief and communicate to web / app developers for further development.

Logos and Branding – you can create brand identities in a range of styles, understanding the needs of the client across different media, from mobile devices to packaging and even physical spaces.

Editorial Documents and reports – you can create stunning reports and presentations showing your design process and sharing the design stories with our clients in an engaging way.

Packaging – you can design incredible product packaging and transform your concepts into detailed product specifications for professional model makers.

Photography and video – you are completely comfortable using a digital SLR and can take product shots in a studio environment using continuous lighting. You know what f-stops are and how to use simple studio lighting setups. You can also film and edit short videos.

Social media – you will be comfortable with the day to day management of our social media platforms with an eye for trends and a knack for engaging with our audience on a range of topics.

You are passionate about design – you have a strong portfolio and demonstrate understanding of photography, typography, colour and design. You know about the latest trends, and are constantly experimenting with the latest movements in visual design.

You believe in user centred design – sometimes you will need to accompany the design team on user research missions, confidently performing interviews with strangers about specific projects and translating their needs into new concepts.

Digital Skills – you are a pro in the whole Adobe Suite, Office and Keynote and preferably also have experience in After Effects and some knowledge of 3D rendering packages.

Resourcefulness – if you don’t know how to do something we want you to learn how. Our work is extremely varied and constantly challenges you to learn new skills.

Communication skills – You have strong verbal, written, and visual presentation skills.

In the studio you will be:

Designing completely new apps and web sites

Creating new brand identities, style guides and mood boards

Preparing presentations, reports and editorial documents

Creating new packaging concepts and visual elements of physical products

Taking photos of new products in a studio environment and also out in the real world, creating and editing short concept films

Experimenting with new concepts and brainstorming new ideas as part of the team

Researching materials and visual languages

Being the gatekeeper to how our studio looks and feels to the outside world online and on social media

Help with the day to day running of the studio, ensuring visitors to the studio have a special experience.

You must have 1-2 years experience in working in a professional design environment, and collaborating with teams in a flexible, open way. You are comfortable meeting senior clients from large companies and presenting your work to them as part of our team.

If you think you have got what it takes and can take on the new challenge, please apply using Workable.
