To design and develop new and existing manufactured products from innovation through to delivery, ensuring the processes and materials across all relevant technologies meet the requirements of the business and end user in terms of quality, durability, functionality, specification and finish to underpin quality and availability at scale.

Research and development of design trends, emerging technologies, processes and materials within direct and associated industries.  Developing new product in order to feed the product development pipeline to ensure that our product offer is at the forefront of trade market requirements.

Programme and project responsibility for design and development of new routine products, ensuring that quality, performance, specification, compliance and durability meet the cost and margin expectations of the business, the builder and the end user.

Technical Management of a SKU portfolio of different products and ensuring that the accuracy and integrity of the data and documents service all stakeholders, from continuous improvement to cost down initiatives and resourcing.

Understand, investigate and explore design trends and drivers in the furniture and other related industries, interpreting into ideas and rationale for product development proposals to ensure continuous pipeline development activity.

Scope, develop and specify new and existing products to ensure optimised quality, cost, availability, cost, functionality and manufacturing at scale. Ensure the technical specification of all products and materials are known, detailed, recorded and communicated to all stakeholders through specialist knowledge, experience and expertise. Understand manufacturing capabilities, capacities, constraints and technologies within assigned area through close relationships and investigation.

Project plan the technical design and development, supporting the trialing, testing and approval of project solutions in line with required standards, specification, performance, functionality and the extended supply chain requirements.

Support the review and appraisal of any new materials and processes and technologies which could impact our product and performance, production facilities, features or functionality, availability or commerciality.

Cradle to grave accountability of development and project management of a total product offer, ensuring products from all tiered suppliers are acceptable against specification and meet all technical, process, production, quality and cost specifications.

Coordination of the wider manufacturing team and external suppliers through the project plan via testing and trialing to ensure the product meets the quality and availability requirements necessary to guarantee the performance of the product through the product life cycle. Study our customers, industry and related industries in order to identify current issues and opportunities, emerging trends and innovations in materials, machinery and processes.

  •  Project planning of Innovation/Pipeline/NPD and NPI initiatives
  • Organising testing programmes to confirm product meets specification and compliance
  • Planning sessions with the customer (builder) to review issues and opportunities in the field


  • Which materials, processes and technologies are specified to meet the product development brief on time and in full,compliant to the required standards and specifications.
  • Specify, articulate and approve technical tolerances, standards and specifications.
  • Support the sourcing plan with specification recommendations which optimise the technical and quality requirements of the product
  • Which testing criteria, process, supplier and methodology are to be used to guarantee product quality, performance, durability, standards and legislative compliance.

To support the categories in Pipeline, NPD and NPI to develop new product for Manufacturing whilst guaranteeing quality, availability, performance and cost.

Detailing and communicating technical product, process and specifications to enable the interdependent network of internal functions and external suppliers to perform tasks and activities in line with the project plans.


Degree qualified with knowledge of product design and industrialisation. Understanding of the fundamentals of mass production, process engineering, project management and NPD processes.
