Smith & Newton Architects is hiring a talented and enthusiastic Part 1 Architectural Assistant to join its team in London.

Candidates should be able to work on a range of projects across the UK, including listed and contemporary new build projects in residential, hospitality and commercial sectors.

The ideal candidate will be creative and confident, with a keen eye for detail. They must be a strongly self-motivated designer, able to take initiative as well as working as part of a team. The role would include working closely with both design directors, to assist and contribute throughout the design process. This would include sketching, physical modelling, 3D computer modelling and preparing work for presentations to clients and bidding for prospective jobs. The role also offers excellent opportunities for client interaction and site experience.

The office works at a high tempo, and on occasion to tight deadlines, candidates must be able to embrace these in a positive manner, working on prestigious projects in a fun and rewarding environment.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Excellent communication skills (fluent in both written and spoken English)
  • Hand-sketching
  • Model making
  • Prior office/work experience
  • Microstation
  • SketchUp
  • Adobe Creative Suite
  • Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of RIBA work stages
  • Understanding of the planning system
  • Understanding of construction procurement methods
  • Understanding of UK building regulations
  • Commercial awareness
