Position Summary

The Planning Services Group (PSG) within Jacobs is a premier provider of facility planning/programming and consulting services to a variety of government, institutional, military, and corporate clients. These services include feasibility studies, project development studies, design guidelines, facility master plans, workplace strategies, visioning sessions, portfolio strategies, and real estate advisory services meant to enhance our clients’ business efficiencies. PSG includes professionals within three specific service lines – Facility Strategies, Urban Design and Planning, and Visual Media. The PSG team includes facility programmers, architects, interior designers, engineers, business analysts, workplace strategists, planners, landscape architects, graphic designers, and other related disciplines.

  • Performs routine aspects of urban planning assignments applying knowledge of basic urban planning principles under close supervision. 
  • Typically receives instructions from and works under the direction of a senior level Planner or Landscape Architect. 
  • Develops plans for utilization of land and physical facilities of cities, counties, and metropolitan areas, applying diverse knowledge of planning and design principles and practices. 
  • Compiles and analyzes data on economic, social, and physical factors affecting land use, and prepares or requisitions graphic and narrative reports on data. 
  • Confers with local authorities, civic leaders, social scientists, and land planning and development specialists to devise and recommend strategies for land use and physical facilities for residential, commercial, industrial, and community uses.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture or a closely related field of study, required.
  • 3-5 years of related experience required
  • Knowledge of planning at the local, state, and federal levels required
  • Knowledge of key principles of city and regional planning, resiliency, and urban design required
  • Experience in land use planning, comprehensive planning, corridor plans and site planning required 
  • Candidates must have the ability to effectively communicate in the English language, both in verbal and written form and should be able to convey complex information in a clear, concise, and positive manner as well as prepare visual aids and make public presentations in a competent and professional manner. 
  • Candidates must also demonstrate the ability to: analyze facts involved in the land-use decision-making process; conduct technical research; interpret and apply department policies and procedures; organize, prioritize, and independently perform work assignments; and manage numerous projects with constant deadlines in a demanding office environment. 
  • Assist in the coordination of projects from conception (feasibility) through final document preparations.
  • Applicants must have the ability to read and interpret planning maps, site plans and architectural drawings.
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office Professional, including Adobe Suite programs, and ArcGIS is required. 
  • Master’s degree in City Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture or related field of study, is preferred
