Working under the supervision of the Senior Planner, and supporting departmental staff and the Director of Campus and Facilities Planning, the incumbent prepares 3-dimensional and other architectural drawings and analysis, data sets, research, and documentation to assist in the physical planning, design and renovation of spaces of the three campuses of the University of Toronto and its major capital projects. The incumbent prepares, creates, or analyzes graphic materials producing artistic renderings of proposals, and conceptual plans and functional layouts, including the layout and design for reports and publications, gathering data, and preparing data analysis. The incumbent conducts site visits and consults with individuals and groups as required, in addition to carrying out building surveys and attending project meetings. The incumbent also maintains various records, including electronic campus 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional models and campus accessibility model.
Advanced College Diploma in Planning, Architecture or related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience. Sound knowledge of architectural graphic representation and graphic design layout is required.
Minimum 5 years of related experience in a graphic design/architecture/planning environment using related software as outlined in this job description.
Excellent computer skills including: AutoCAD 2010 with experience in the preparation of architectural drawings, Microsoft Office, Excel, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and Google Sketchup. Demonstrated ability to create 3D drawings at an intermediate level in Sketchup and to design and layout graphic materials for publication.
Candidate must have artistic ability, excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills. Tact and diplomacy are essential to perform the service aspects of the job. Incumbent must be thorough, systematic and conscientious in work habits, able to work independently, balance a variety of tasks simultaneously and meet deadlines. Must possess the ability to adapt to new technical changes in architectural representation and graphic layout.
