Urban Omnibus seeks a Project Assistant in a part-time, 4-month position beginning September 2020.

The project assistant plays an integral role in a small team producing written and audiovisual features for the monthly digital publication and developing special editorial projects. The position combines editorial production — copyediting, fact checking, image research and production, WordPress — with research. This fall, the project assistant will collaborate on two special initiatives at the intersection of design, climate, and justice in the urban environment.

The ideal candidate will have an abiding interest in the design and politics of the built environment, and the contribution of everyone — from professional designers to people going about their everyday lives — to the collective work of citymaking. Excellent writing and editing skills, with attention to detail in language and elsewhere, are essential, as is enthusiasm for research, from scrolling scholarly databases to phoning strangers. Documentary or graphic design skills are highly desirable. We strongly encourage people of color, women, LGBTQ individuals, people with disabilities, and others who may contribute to the diversity of perspectives to apply.

Candidates should be available 15 hours per week and be able to commit to a 16-week period. While the Architectural League is currently working remotely, proximity to and familiarity with New York City are required. The project assistant will receive compensation of $20/hour. Applicants must be authorized to work in the US. Candidates should be available to begin by September 7, 2020.
