You will join an exciting group of architects and urban designers who work in the UK, Europe, Middle East and Africa. We are part of SOM’s Global City Design Practice of seventy talented professionals working across our offices around the world. You will work on projects at the regional, city, district, and neighborhood levels, in collaboration with our in-house Architecture and Open Space teams. This work includes international design competitions, regeneration of urban districts, community planning, and University and Health Care campus planning each with a strong emphasis on placemaking, sustainability, and livability.

What You’ll Do

  • Generate sophisticated planning and design ideas, conducting high-level research, and identifying documents, precedents, and relevant scale studies
  • Envision and develop diagrams, render site plans, and contribute to all graphic and visual production
  • Enrich design concepts through increasingly sophisticated knowledge, research acumen, and proficient application of technical and visualization skills
  • Use software and appropriate analogue and digital tools to design and document all project phases
  • Apply SOM City Design Practice protocols for file management, planning, and design processed, and quality control standards for deliverables
  • Manage time and workload to meet project task deadlines and commitments with direction from project leaders
  • Create and innovate with a strong conceptual design ability, integrating interdisciplinary criteria to move forward the planning and urban design aspects of complex projects
  • Regularly participate in lectures, design review, lunch and learns, site visits, and professional development opportunities

 What You’ve Got

  • Professional degree in Architecture, Planning, Urban Design, or Landscape Architecture
  • 2+ years of experience with professional licensure in process 
  • Experience in large-scale planning, mixed-use, and transit-oriented development
  • High-level of proficiency in AutoCAD, Rhino, Grasshopper, Enscape, Lumion, and other parametric, rendering, and graphic software applications.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Adobe Suite, and Microsoft Office/Project.

Portfolios must be submitted for all design positions (Architecture, Interiors, Planning, etc). Applications without work samples will not be reviewed.  Portfolios should be one PDF attachment, 10-20 pages, maximum 5 MB.
