OVERVIEW

“Industrial designers shape the world.” The Industrial Design Engineering faculty at TU Delft, or the Delft University of Technology, puts this adage to the test, with a number of degree programs, where students have designed everything from “iconic water bottles” to community sanitary facilities in India. The school constantly has its eyes set on the future: “Product development is moving from an interdisciplinary to a transdisciplinary occupation, becoming more knowledge intensive and therefore in need of continuous updates of tools and methods.”

After a BSc, students can pursue any of three Master programmes: Design for Interaction, Integrated Product Design (IPD) and Strategic Product Design (SPD). The IPD teaches how to design products and services, through an integrated approach, “based on a balance between the interests of users, business and societal challenges.” The SPD looks at the business side of product and service design, with perspectives ranging from large international corporations to start-ups.
