Belgian designer Alain Gilles wanted to create a subtle hypnotic effect with his Coque mirror for Italy’s Miniforms. To that end, he conceived a circular ceramic frame with an extra-deep edge and placed a round piece of mirrored glass within. The deft combination gives the reflective surface the appearance of floating within its “shell,” or coque in French.

Furthering the effect, the interior of the frame is enamelled and glossy while the exterior is textured and matte. No matter how the mirror is approached, both finishes reveal themselves in a dynamic and contradictory interplay.

Two sizes are available – 65 and 100 centimetre widths, with frame depths of 10 and 13 centimetres respectively – and both are offered in three earthy colourways, warm and milky Crema, deep pewter Peltro and rusty Terracotta.
