Get the Magazine

British designer Geoffrey Harcourt originally designed the F500 series of swivel armchairs in 1967 (for Dutch furniture brand Artifort) with the philosophy that a chair should focus on the person after noticing how his girlfriend preferred to sit cross-legged in lounge chairs. To that end, he developed his collection with a shell-shaped chairs with a generous seat and back perched upon an elegant trumpet base.

Available in North America through a partnership between Studio TK and Artifort, there are three versions in the F500 collection, each with a distinct upholstery style – clean and fixed (F510) for corporate settings, a more relaxed welt (F585) suitable for residences and a statement-making button tufted (F588) – and each can be finished in a range of Luum textiles.

Bases can be powder-coated in a variety of matching and contrasting colours.
