Float Sofa by Stellar Works

Celebrated Italian architect Michele De Lucchi — an influential figure of the Memphis movement — plays with perception for his first collaboration with furniture-maker Stellar Works: Supported by a seemingly invisible structure, the aptly named Float sofa appears to hover in the air.

A sturdy yet slender metal sheet forms the base for a double layer of cushions, while a crossbar running horizontally and sideways keeps the cushions in place. Unobtrusive tapered legs lift it all off the ground.

Four versions are available — a one-, two- and three-seater sofa plus an L-shaped option. The modular series can be configured in a multitude of arrangements and accessorized with backseats, headrests and a range of movable pillows.

Optional built-in wooden side tables (in two sizes) can also be added to enhance its functionality. Its black powder-coated steel frame can be complemented by a wide range of upholstery options.
