Alpi’s Rain and Cloudy collections, consisting of wood surfacing designed by Copenhagen studio GamFratesi, aim to embody an impressionistic vision of nature. Inspired by ukiyo-e, the Japanese woodblock prints popularized between the 17th and 19th Centuries, both collections showcase the fluid, minimalist language typical of GamFratesi’s designs.

The Cloudy collection captures GamFratesi’s fascination with clouds, transforming their beauty, elusive forms and shapeshifting nuances into graphic patterns. The light, delicate Cloudy surfacing contrasts a black background with intervals of ivory stripes, suggesting a floating, faraway world. It’s captivating, evoking the idealized realities of ukiyo-e.

Rain is offered in light grey and black colourways, featuring a stylized representation of drops of water. The rainfall pattern is repeated at random on the wood surface, filled with droplets of unexpected colours. The paler colourway has blue, black and red “raindrops”; the darker option has bursts of white, blue and red. Both options can be used for a dreamy, fascinating effect.
