Mikado chairs by Ondarreta

Basque architect Nadia Arratibel designed the Mikado family of chairs for Ondarreta in two sizes to be of practical use to all that use it, young and old alike. Comprised of simple geometric shapes, the simple seat is made from birch plywood, making it lightweight and easily transported to where it’s needed.

Its low-slung profile is enhanced by its streamlined structure, with wide seat pan and subtly splayed legs. The chair’s form was inspired by a pair of chopsticks, leading to the gently incline of the base. A gentle curve in the back offers support and a range of fabric options are available for the seat and back cushions.

Part of the family, Ondarreta’s Mikado table is also available in two sizes and shapes – a sculptural low table with sloped legs and a larger dining-size with an extendable oval surface. Both feature a phenolic laminate top in multiple finish options and birch plywood bases that can be natural or stained.
