Mixu seating by Arper

A collaboration between Arper and global architecture, design and planning firm Gensler, Mixu was devised as a completely customizable seating system: The three individual components that make up each chair – the base, seat and backrest – can be specified in different colourways and textural finishes to give each a unique personality.

Mixu’s silhouette is composed of gently round curves rendered with a minimalist hand, and can take on a variety of expressions depending on the hues and materials chosen.

Seat pan options include post-industrial recycled plastic or FDC-certified wood, either of which can be left bare or upholstered in a range of fabrics and leathers. Backrests are available in plastic, fabric or leather while the four-leg bases are either metal or FSC-certified wood. A coordinating stool in two heights is also part of the system; sharing the same seat pan size as the chair, the stools introduce comfort to hospitality and contract settings.

Intentionally sustainable, the backrest and seat upholstery and the polyurethane foam padding are all attached without using glue or staples, meaning components can be easily replaced if needed to extend the product’s life. The disassembled pieces are flat-pack shipped to reduce volume and carbon footprint.
