BESA Museum Conceptual Design Competition

The Albanian Ministry of Culture is announcing the BESA Museum Conceptual Design Competition, an open design competition for architecture design proposals for the establishment of a contemporary museum in the city of Tirana, BESA Museum.

The goal of this competition is to obtain visionary concepts for interventions and restorations of existing buildings, as well as a revitalization project that aims to add new cultural space. The project should be in harmony with the environment and surrounding historical area.

BESA, in Albania, is cultural code that embodies the principles of hospitality, protection of guests, and fulfilling promises.

The museum should take the visitor by the hand and accompany them on a journey through the history of the people who lived according to BESA. This is what the BESA Museum project should remind the young Albanian visitor, as well as foreign visitors who know little about the BESA of the Albanian people.

Interventions in this object will take place in three categories:
1. Restoration Interventions
2. Revitalizing Interventions/New Functions
3. Musealization

The competition takes place in two phases:

Phase 1: Expression of interest
At the end of the first stage, 5 finalists will be announced who will be awarded 40,000 euros each.

Phase 2: Concept Design
The finalist will sign the contract for the preparation of the detailed design of the museum.

The BESA Museum Conceptual Design Competition is open to professionals at every level.
