Gone are the days of one-size-fits-all workspaces. Though in the past it wasn’t uncommon to spec the same furnishings for an entire office, nowadays businesses seek to inject each space with unique personality, all while curating a cohesive interior. Keilhauer’s newest soft seating offerings, launched at NeoCon in June, allow designers to do just that — with four versatile lounge chairs that can be mixed and matched, yet are distinctive enough to become statement pieces in their own right. And, because all four designs are carbon-neutral, they maximize impact in the office with minimal impact to the planet.

Toob collection

Bringing Bauhaus flair to the contemporary workspace, the geometric Toob lounge chair, designed by EOOS, is the sparest of the four; its upholstered angular seat and cylindrical armrests appear to levitate atop its svelte metal frame. “The lines of Toob really carry its volume,” the designers explain. “They are not touching; there is always a little bit of a gap. It’s like you are holding a large volume on a very thin sketched line.” Paired with the accompanying bar stool and occasional table, the collection makes for a graphic addition to any office.

Swish collection

Swish, meanwhile, offers a grounded counterpoint to Toob’s light and airy form. A fresh take on the classic club chair, its design is a metaphor for the close collaboration it fosters, with a slender backrest that elegantly curves around the ultra-plush seat, highlighted by a swooping stitch pattern. “Where these two pieces meet, there is a subtle squeezing effect – this creates an interesting tension within the chair that adds an intriguing visual element,” says EOOS. Available with a swivel base, glides or casters, and optional combo cover upholstery, Swish is highly customizable.

Abl lounge chairs

The last of the EOOS-designed lounge chairs is Abl, a mid-century-inspired piece with a cozy curved back and armrests draped effortlessly over an FSC-certified ash frame (the collection also includes an ottoman with the same draped detail). The recessed back makes for a generous seat, while also highlighting the chair’s construction. “There is a gentle softness present in the draped effect of this chair, as if naturally created by gravity, and the ash base allows for just enough rigidity,” say the designers.

Dais lounge chair

Dais, for its part, brought home the gold, earning triple honours for seating, healthcare products and sustainability at the Best of NeoCon Awards. Designed by Form Us With Love, another of Keilhauer’s frequent collaborators, its open-backed design minimizes material use without compromising comfort — and allows easy access to wipe down the plush upholstered seat. The chair is characterized by its sculptural bent plywood frame: Made from one continuous piece, the back- and armrests do double duty as a table wide enough to accommodate a laptop. Though at first they may look like just a place to put your feet up, Keilhauer’s new lounge chairs are ready to work.
