The Overture wallpaper collection from Calico is the first-ever collaboration with U.K.-based designer Lee Broom, and is a dramatic and theatrical series inspired by Broom’s history with theatre, sculpture and surrealism.

For his Overture wallpaper collection from Calico, Lee Broom explored the presentational power of drapery as set design into an imaginative scene for interiors. Illusion has been a common thread through Broom’s entire body of work, including with the Overture wallpaper.

As a student at Central Saint Martins, Broom worked in curtain-making and drapery, devising avant-garde draped scenes for bars and restaurants to support his studies. This expertise was recently applied to his limited-edition Requiem lighting series, which took his draping skills to a sculptural level with the fluidity of drapery capturing in illuminated globes, tubes and rings made from solid plaster and appearing to float in mid-air.

With the Overture collection from Calico, his expressive and theatrical flair shines through in the whimsical and trompe l’oeil design – a large-scale pattern that brings the drama with its folds, sashes and fluid lines.

The Overture collection is available in seven aptly named colourways: Applause, a radiant rich brown; Audition, a confident steel blue; Auditorium, an immersive deep-toned grey; Chorus, a moody yet harmonious blending of neutral hues; Interval, a soft and serene gradated white-grey; Matinee, a warm, quiet and calm sunlit tone; and Recital, a gentle and inviting ivory.

As with all Calico wallpapers, Overture is printed on PVC-free, clay-coated paper in versions suitable for both residential and commercial applications.
