The Evelina Kroon collection by Layered is the result of the most recent collaboration between the Swedish artist and the Stockholm-based rug-maker.
Translating the distinctive visual language of the artist’s paintings — graphic, exuberant — the Evelina Kroon collection includes five bold designs that are at once timeless and contemporary: Arable Land, Arbor, Chestnut, Currant Bush and Pergola.
The Evelina Kroon rugs from Layered are hand-knotted rya rugs — traditional Scandinavian wool rugs with long piles dating to 15th-century Norway — and are made from 100 per cent New Zealand wool.
Reimagining Kroon’s paintings and graphic compositions in a tactile rug, the designs walk the line between artwork and interior design staple, focusing on tactility, volume and rhythm. The process starts with the artist’s analogue sketches that are digitally translated, colour tested and refined.
The rigid grids are softened by the long shaggy pile of the rugs, lending the styles a more inviting and organic feel.
Each colour in the Evelina Kroon collection has been carefully selected to work individually but also in coordination with each other, allowing for the layering of multiple rugs in one space.
The five rugs in the Evelina Kroon collection are each available in four standard sizes: 180 x 270, 200 x 300, 250 x 250 and 300 x 400 centimetres.
