This spring, Luceplan will demonstrate the beauty and versatility of its Liiu lighting system in a dramatic takeover of Standard Shop’s Toronto design hub. In celebration of the installation, Luceplan’s Marco Cavalieri and Liiu designer Esther Jongsma (of Dutch studio Vantot) are joining AZURE in conversation to discuss the development of Liiu and the creative opportunities made possible by this exciting new product line — as well as Luceplan’s overall design philosophy and ongoing evolution.

Founded in 1978 by three architects, Luceplan specializes in daring designs made possible by innovative technical engineering. Liiu is a perfect example, fastening acrylic lampshades to barely-there electrified tension cables held in place by bold black counterweights. The result is pure sculptural poetry — and the configuration possibilities are endless, ranging from radiant circular rings to cascading waterfalls of light.

Panelists

Marco Cavalieri, the Global Sales and Contract Director at Luceplan, joined the company in 2023 after 20 years of business development experience within the design industry.

Esther Jongsma, met her Vantot co-founder, Sam van Gurp, while studying in Eindhoven. The two named their studio after a Dutch phrase that means “from/to,” reflecting their focus on the entire design process — from concept through to product.
