Taking its name from the Japanese word for “equivalent,” the Taitō collection from +kouple is a commendable balancing of volumes. A precise representation of a visual concept that studio founder and creative director Dan Vakhrameyev devised, the series is a playful way to introduce seating into contract and private spaces.
The Taitō collection is a delightful expression of the studio’s signature approach to form — one that is non-standard and atypical and combines simplicity with a distinct individuality.
The intent behind the Taitō collection was to create a solid and reliable structure with a familiar design language. The pouffes are composed of two easily identified geometric forms — a square and a cylinder — that work together beautifully.
Offered in two silhouettes — one short and wide, the other slightly taller and thinner — the Taitō collection from +kouple balances seemingly sharp lines with plush comfort, and the two identities complement and support each other within the surrounding environment.
The pouffes are constructed for durability, with a plywood and high-density fibreboard internal structure that is upholstered in a variety of high-quality wool textiles, each chosen for their inviting tactile warmth; upholstery colours include black, grey, blue, coral, green and yellow.
Known for its unapologetically minimalist lighting fixtures, the Taitō collection marks the Ukrainian studio’s foray into furniture design and manufacturing.
