With the recently released Palm and Shell, KunDesign introduces charming characters that enliven outdoor settings with whimsy and sophistication.
The Palm and Shell from KunDesign are two seating series with their own dynamic personalities that express designer and founder Kun’s ambition to find connections between nature and the city lifestyle. Blending environmental responsibility with strong materiality and a contemporary design language, the two seating collections are part of a larger release for 2026.
For the Palm lounge chair, Kun took inspiration from both “the dignity of ceremonial tribal seating” and from the embracive nature of palm fronds. The high back of the Palm lounge chair is made from intricately interwoven ropes that create subtle references to tribal motifs, and lend the sitter a sense of being enveloped by the canopy-like structure.
The sculptural presence of the Palm lounge chair is complemented by its natural teak armrests and a generously padded seat and back cushions; while soft and inviting, the cushions maintain their shape to provide comfortable support.
With the Shell series, KunDesign offers a comprehensive collection that includes an armchair, a two-seater chair, a one-seater and multi-seater sofa and a curved sofa. Inspired by the natural element it’s named for, the individual pieces in the Shell seating series are unified by their textural backrests, which are created using different three-dimensional weaving styles and techniques to emphasize the beauty of handicrafts.
A seamless connection between the arm and backrest lends a sense of protection as they extend forward in a way that follows the organic curvature of a shell. Plump seat and back cushions have a soft and smooth texture; the cushions can be upholstered in quick-dry fabric to match or contrast the lightweight yet sturdy aluminum frame.
Both Palm and Shell from KunDesign are available in a range of colour options for the upholstered portions, the framework and the woven elements.
