SPINAL STAIR
Italian firm Disguincio & Co conceived the prototype Folio staircase in fibreglass modules reinforced with carbon fibre strips. Principal Mirko Daneluzzo says the goal was essentialism – “making things with fewer components that do more” – and the result resembles a spinal column. disguincio800.com

ERROR MESSAGE
Resembling a distorted image of a cabinet, this storage unit from Fratelli Boffi’s Good Vibrations series stretches the possibilities of CNC manufac-turing to produce an object with a sense of irony. Designed by Ferruccio Laviani, the oak cabinet also references traditional oriental furniture. fratelliboffi.it

BODY SCULPTURE
Like a swirl of black smoke encircling the wearer’s neck, the Kinesis polyamide necklaces are laser sintered in striated forms that seem to ebb and flow. They are the work of London’s Daniel Widrig, an alumnus of Zaha Hadid’s firm, who has also collaborated with haute couturier Iris van Herpen on her insectlike 3‑D-printed dresses. danielwidrig.com

SECOND SKIN
Burlesque artist Dita von Teese models a Fibonacci-inspired nylon gown tailored to her body by Francis Bitonti and Michael Schmidt, who sought to emphasize 3‑D printing’s ability to output a fluid, custom-fitted textile. “It transforms and adapts continuously to the body,” says Bitonti. The garment is part of an evolving collection. francisbitonti.com
