While core desking and storage systems are often at the forefront of workplace design, the creation of an inviting office also requires the types of extras that make employees feel comfortable, energized and organized. These modern office accessories, which include small storage, breakout seating and side tables, add colour and dexterity to workspaces while also boosting their functionality. They’re the final touches that make the office a dynamic, adaptable environment.
“Power and charging solutions for people and furniture on the move.” That’s how Nienkämper describes this table collection for smaller meetings, by Carl Gustav Magnusson, that can adapt to the ever-changing work environment and the needs of employees. It integrates a battery-rechargeable wireless USB A + C power source into one of its uniquely shaped legs, which are made of solid ash, walnut or powder-coated cast aluminum in various finishes. The top comes in plastic laminate or wood veneer. More office tables here.
A collection of structured pouffes, the Bonds line was designed by Iratzoki-Lizaso for Teknion to cinch together – via a cross strap system – like a Jacob’s Ladder toy. In this way, it allows for free-form modularity and tighter collaborative configurations. For the latter option, the collection also includes auxiliary tables that can be built into the arrangement; and, even when zipped together, the individual pouffes can be rotated up to 180 degrees. Three sizes of module are available, in multiple upholstery hues. More breakout seating here.
Designed by renowned U.K. firm Foster + Partners, Takku was named for the Japanese word for tack. It has an undeniable architectural quality to it, with a smooth-capped LED portable lamp and weighted base. The Artemide lamp is also rechargeable; with three brightness levels, it can last for at least 20 hours. “We worked hard to optimize the light diffuser to distribute the light down the stem,” explains Mike Holland, Foster + Partner’s head of industrial design, “while also creating a visible illuminated edge around the shade and express a volume of light.” More lights here.
This office accessory by Loftwall provides a simple solution with multiple benefits: the partition is adjustable, moveable and can rotate, plus it’s tackable. But most important, Buffer is made with all-recyclable material. It comes in nine sizes (two-, three- and four-foot widths by four-, five- or six-foot heights) and a variety of bright and and neutral finishes. More partitions here.
Designed by Mike & Maaike, Watson‘s Haven is described as “a collection of tables and tools designed to bring people together intentionally and purposefully.” It includes multiple high tables for impromptu gatherings, as well as the Perch table and Recharge bench – for those in-between nooks where office denizens need a place to lean while charging or checking their phones – and the Media Panel and Monitor Mount, which can turn any Haven table into a video conferencing pod.
This Pringle-shaped pendant fixture by the sound-conscious creators at BuzziSpace does double duty: it provides ambient office lighting and offers acoustic dampening thanks to its contoured form, which features 2.8-inch-thick upholstery. BuzziChip comes in three different sizes and can be custom-upholstered in a wide range of fabric and colour choices that stretch its application possibilities.
Sometimes one’s personal items need a smaller, more intimate storage receptacle. With Stash by Pair, you can put your laptop or phone away (so you aren’t distracted by every notification) and charge them via the USB port at the back of the drawer. You can also hang your bag off of the external hook.
Every office needs at least one. Featuring 3D knit upholstery and a thin metal frame, the Avalon chaise, by Union Design for KFI, is made of two pieces: the seat and back are split to allow for compact shipping and also create a compelling form of two bent planes coming together. It can be paired with a swivel table that easily clamps to the lounger and a privacy screen that completes the restful work setting.
This elegant wood shelving system by Ethnicraft offers the utmost flexibility. It comes in two-, three- and five-shelf systems that can be combined in numerous ways. Imbuing a space with warmth as well as organization, the system is suitable for residential and office interiors. More storage here.
This desk setup displays two of AIS‘s clever decluttering office accessories, the PET Wire Manager, which incorporates wire management into a privacy screen, and the Suspended Caddy. The latter, meant to keep frequently used items within easy reach, is attached under a worktop where it can replace a space-hogging pedestal.
