Spring and summer are not cancelled. In fact, as we continue to physically distance, we will want to create outdoor respites that are inspiring, vibrant and maybe even a little whimsical and romantic. Here are 10 outdoor furniture pieces for spring that imagine a dreamy al fresco environment. (For more furniture, lighting and accessories, check out our Spec Sheets).

1
Tape “Cord” Outdoor, by Nendo for Minotti

An expansion of his indoor sofa series Tape for Minotti, this collection of armchairs, sofas and chaise longues by Nendo introduces new proportions and materials suitable for al fresco lounging. The seats are deeper and larger, while the metal frame is covered with wicker-effect cords in two colours: “mud” and “liquorice.” Even the details – such as the piece of ribbon, now in a bronze-finished metal plate, that adheres the feet to the body – are hardier.

2
Lena swing, by Frale Design for Diabla

This outdoor swing made of white polyethylene – with a cross-stitch rope in braided polyester – adds a touch of whimsy to gardens and porches. Diabla, the Spanish brand behind the piece, recommends installing the swings in pairs.

3
Night Birds Exterior, by Boris Klimek for Brokis

To create the avian-inspired Night Birds collection, the Czech glass lighting company Brokis employs a unique method of melting glass into a mould and then bending it into three different flight positions. The process allows for nuances in both the shapes of the wings and in their colouration (they come in white and black). The light source is integrated in a polished aluminum cylinder. According to Brokis, the pendant lamps work best in flocks.

4
Reverie, by Marcel Wanders for Walters Wicker

Romance is alive in Marcel Wanders’ world. Part of a larger collection, his poolside chaise for New York brand Walters re-introduces the ornate style synonymous with the Dutch designer’s early work. The 212-centimetre-long lounger has an aluminum frame, with die-cast legs, that is adorned with a custom pattern.

5
Tile, by John Pawson for Teixidors

For those cool spring and summer nights, these throws by the master of minimalism come in three warm grey tones, reminiscent of shades of marble, stone and slate. There are no better words to describe the series’ manufacture than those employed by the Spanish brand: the fabrics are “hand-woven in a balanced composition of ecological Merino wool from Provence, France, and ecological baby yak wool, obtained by combing young animals herded by a cooperative of nomadic cattlemen in Mongolia.”

6
Generation 50 Bench, by Robert Chipman for Landscape Forms

“A singular expression. Many profiles.” The tagline for Landscape Forms‘ Generation 50 collection is apt. While the entire line shares a visual character – its angular, diamond-shaped detailing – the myriad options for customization allow it to adapt to any project. The benches, for instance, can be specified with or without backs, and with arms in a range of shapes, and be installed in “traditional, cantilevered, top-of-wall mounted, and wall-mounted styles.” The series, which also includes other public furnishings, is made of cast aluminum, steel and wood – including thermally modified ash.

7
Caractère Table by Fermob

This table is large enough, at 1.9 metres long, to allow for physical distancing during a dinner beneath the stars; and then it folds away for easy storage. At just 30 kg, it is the lightest steel garden table of its size, according to Fermob. The top comes with a high-protection treatment.

8
Summer and Bouquet Collection by Ilaria.i

These dishes by Italian porcelain maker Ilaria.i inject a bit of la dolce vita into any outdoor dining experience. The Summer collection (left) is inspired by “adventures, travels, relax and fragile loves of this season.” The Bouquet collection (right), which comes with gold and satin finishes, “celebrates the spring, when flowers are the perfect present.”

9
QTOO Outdoor Shower

Durable enough to withstand all kinds of weather, Danish bathroom fixture brand QTOO‘s marine-grade stainless steel shower systems come in brushed and polished versions. The shower head and hand-held sprayer have a volume control diverter that also incorporates anti-scald protection.

10
Net collection by Raffaello Galiotto for Nardi

The Net collection (also shown at the top of this article) by Italian company Nardi Outdoor pays homage to vibrant colour. It comes in white, anthracite, willow, turtledove, mustard and coral. The batch-dyed collection – armchairs, a sofa and a table – are all made of fibreglass resin, treated with anti-UV protection.
