Italian architect Vico Magistretti designed the iconic Novetrenta armchair for Cassina in the 1960s. A mainstay of the Italian brand until it went out of production in 1978, it was recently resurrected from the archives and reimagined for the outdoors. Crafted in Cassina’s carpentry workshop with a solid iroko wood frame, the new iteration retains its recognizable silhouette and updates it with two hardy options for the seat and back: woven polypropylene cords that are twisted to create a distinct pattern and nod directly to the original’s use of straw; and a water-repellent polyester canvas with recycled polyester fibre wadding and polyurethane foam (to simplify recycling and recovery of components, the upholstered versions can be completely disassembled).

While the woven cord variation comes in one natural tone, the removable fabric covers are available in a range of colourways and patterns. Meanwhile, the frame can be finished in a natural tone or stained in a vibrant China Red or dreamy Powder Blue. The new outdoor furniture series includes an armchair and a two-seater sofa.

Harkening back to classic wicker furniture, Shinuk features a chunky yet streamlined profile made from a synthetic wicker that mimics the look of its natural counterpart. Wrapped around an internal metal frame, the durable material is offered in neutral Sand Dune or mossy Sage Brush and can be paired with 100 per cent acrylic cushion covers in either Shoreline, Fern or Patio.

The hand-crafted process ensures each Choco lounge chair is one-of-a-kind, with natural variations in the wood’s graining and tone lending a unique personality; the teak used is SVLK-certified (an Indonesian third-party verification) and three trees are planted for each purchase to replenish the forests. Prioritizing heirloom-quality over fleeting trends, the Choco lounge chair effortlessly supports unplugging and simply enjoying the present.
