Light + Building is underway in Frankfurt, and Azure is there to take in the endless halls of lighting innovations. Among more than 2,600 exhibitors and countless launches, here are five outdoor lighting options that stand out from the crowd.
1 Aprile by Karman
The fourth in Matteo Ugolin’s whimsical animal series replaces the fish’s scales with an elaborate floral motif and is made in ceramic with a decorative Edison bulb forming the eye.
2 Giant Architect Lamp by Light Point
Several new interpretations of the classic piece were shown by the Danish brand, including this massive version in matte black, accented with a gold interior.
3 Glow and Moso Ground by Royal Botania
The Belgian brand introduced several new outdoor pieces in its pitched-roof pavilion. Glow is a floor lamp for terraces and patios, in matte white aluminum, while Moso Ground is a unique tube-shaped spotlight in black aluminum.
4 Tolomeo outdoor by Michele De Lucchi for Artemide
The Italian architect/industrial designer pinpointed this collection as a favourite among his own work, mentioning the fact that 30 years after its launch it is still manufactured and still evolving as a point of pride. The new iterations include pendant and floor lamps for the outdoors, with shades in Thuia fabric by Paola Lenti, or an opal glass diffuser.
5 Look Wood, by Matteo Thun for Simes
This line includes three sets of outdoor sconces and bollards: Look Wood, Cool Wood and Skill Wood. Each combines the latest in LED technology with natural oiled teak and die-cast aluminum, in white powdercoat or burnished bronze.
