With the first day of summer only a month away, it’s time to think about getting outside. Here are nine seating options from the likes of Royal Botania, Minotti and Gandia Blasco to soak up the heat.
1 Fat by B&B Italia
The latest iteration of Patricia Urquiola’s Fat collection for B&B is designed for outdoor use. Consisting of sofas, chairs, ottomans and tables, the padded line features a large weave made from twisted polyethylene fibres.
2 1966 by Knoll
Knoll just reintroduced Richard Schultz’s collection of powder-coated steel pieces from 1966. It was originally designed at the request of Florence Knoll to withstand the corrosive Florida ocean air. Available in black or white, it is regarded as the first line of modern outdoor furniture.
3 Sabinas by Vondom
Javier Mariscal’s curvy polypropylene chairs are stackable and suit residential or commercial spaces. Sabinas comes in five colours: red, ecru, black, white or bronze.
4 Aston Cord by Minotti
Defined by a braided polypropylene cord in light grey or dark brown, evocative or natural fibre, Rodolfo Dordoni’s outdoor line includes sofas, a loveseat, a chaise-longue, armchairs, and an ottoman.
5 Rams by Paola Lenti
These stackable loungers, in single or double size, are made from varnished aluminum with legs in steel or coated bamboo and an adjustable backrest.
6 Bundle by Extremis
Random branches laying in the woods inspired this bench, day bed and sofa hybrid from Belgium’s Extremis. Made from aluminum tubes wrapped in Sunbrella straps, Bundle is available with or without cushions, in a range of colours.
7 Ninix by Royal Botania
Designed by engineer and Royal Botania co-founder Kris Van Puyvelde, this modular lounge collection, in brushed stainless steel, stainless steel or coated aluminum, is minimal and compact. The newest pieces include a two-seater, a three-seater and an adjustable and foldable cocktail table with a glass or ceramic top.
8 Stampa by Kettal
The perforated back of the Bouroullecs’ lightweight metal Stampa lend it a feeling of fabric. Stackable and available in two finishes, it uses strengthening injection-moulded rings to connect the stamped seat, back, and hydro-formed legs.
9 Jian by Gandia Blasco
Shanghai architects Neri & Hu added a hooded sofa to their Jian collection for Spanish company Gandia Blasco. Made of recyclable thermo-lacquered aluminum with polyurethane foam rubber seats covered in a removable water-repellent cover.
