For My Fluffy Friend’s Pet Shop, local design firm MCM Interiors overhauled a dimly lit social club, known for its leather sofas, heavy drapery and crystal chandeliers, into the precise opposite: a bright and open playground where unleashed pets can roam free.
Designers Dale Kosowan and Sally Han stripped the 60-square-metre storefront to its bare essentials and repainted the entire space white, which served as the canvas for several unifying additions, including custom millwork with pet-friendly rounded corners. A load-bearing column in the middle of the shop is now recast as an abstract tree clad in plywood with display nooks and seating at its base.
The grey-painted concrete floors are durable enough to withstand scampering feet and the display units are mounted to the walls, away from wagging tails and wet noses. The cash desk features a back-lit acrylic panel with a grass-like pattern from 3form, and mushroom-shaped knobs for tethering leashed pets during transactions. Eureka’s Yumi pendant lamps highlight the workspace.
While this is the area most customers will spend their time in while shopping with Fido, further back in the shop Kosowan and Han have made space for a kitchen, a bathroom, and an exercise room with dog treadmills available for rent.
