An Azure-ite since 2003, when she was hired as an intern straight out of Ryerson’s journalism program, Elizabeth Pagliacolo has been appointed to the role of Editor in Chief. She succeeds Danny Sinopoli, who is moving on to pursue new creative projects. Pagliacolo has held various roles at Azure, the most recent Executive Editor, where she served as a core part of the digital, events and print teams. She is thrilled to be taking on this new challenge.
“I am excited and honoured to be Azure’s Editor,” says Pagliacolo. “I literally grew up at this magazine. It has evolved in so many ways over the years as it has continued to be a platform for cutting-edge projects and ideas around the world. I can’t wait for what’s next for our stellar team.”
More editorial promotions are also underway: Managing Editor Kendra Jackson assumes the post of second-in-command; Stefan Novakovic, formerly web editor, becomes Senior Editor; and Evan Pavka, formerly associate editor, is now Senior Associate Editor. The changes see the print and digital teams joining forces to develop new ways to deliver compelling stories about design and architecture across all Azure’s print and digital platforms.
Over the past 18 years, Pagliacolo has written extensively on design and architecture for Azure, covering trade fairs globally and interviewing luminaries emerging and established. In 2013, she took on the role of web editor at-large while pursuing freelance journalism; then joined the Design Exchange to serve as Director of Programming for the 2017 EDIT Festival. She returned to Azure in 2018, part of a team reponsible for garnering several National Magazine Awards for the publication and for reshaping its website into a hub for bold thinkers.
