Plastic furniture manufacturer Kartell blew all the stops for its 2011 presentation. Designed by longtime booth-designer architect Feruccio Laviani, the setting is hard to miss. It’s all done up in flashing lights like the billboards and carnival signs of yesteryear.

The most memorable products created since the company began in 1949 are grouped together under the banner of “Design Icons”, while others are grouped under the theme of the Ghost series, or hang together simply by virtue of being red.

This year’s launches – including a great-looking new sofa by Patricia Urquiola – get the multi-bulbed “star” treatement. With the hoards of visitors that were walking over it today, the booth’s unfinished wood flooring sounded as rickety as an old ferris wheel, but you can bet that this is the most photographed stand on the block.
