Whether your getaway is a waterfront cottage or an urban backyard, consider these five beautiful outdoor living products – by Kettal, Eva Solo and others – an investment in relaxation and sophistication.

1 SOAK outdoor tub
Inspired by traditional Japanese Ofuro soaking tubs, this two-person, wood-burning interpretation by design studio ox + monkey can be used under the sun and stars. The design is minimal and sleek, featuring a marine-grade aluminum body complemented by the tub’s naturally sourced red cedar interior. The stove is concealed and a small aperture on the side serves as a tidy storage spot for wood logs. The tub, which can also be heated by propane, is simple to assemble and can be relocated without much fuss.

2 Helios heated lounge chair
Outdoor living season can be extended with Galanter & Jones‘ collection of heated cast-stone furniture, featuring chairs, benches and lounges (including the Helios, pictured). The California-based brother-sister design and fabrication duo devised the line as a sophisticated alternative to conspicuous and unsightly heating lamps.

Electric heating elements, contained in the smooth stone shell, work similarly to radiant floor heating, warming the user from beneath. The designers liken the seating surface to that of a “rock set out in the sun,” and the physical effect to that provided by a hot tub, without getting the user wet. Power cords exit discreetly from the right back leg of each piece and the heat can be controlled by the sitter.

3 UMA by Pablo
This lantern-speaker combination by Pablo goes a long way towards setting the perfect mellow atmosphere. It employs LED warm dimming technology to create a warm glow that can be adjusted with a touch-sensitive dial, which also controls the volume of its high-fidelity surround sound speaker. Rechargeable and cable-free, UMA uses Bluetooth to pair with any mobile music device, playing for up to eight hours on a single charge. A shatterproof polycarbonate shade and silicone feet ensure durability, while its soft lines and leather carrying strap add elegance.

UMA received an Award of Merit in this year’s AZ Awards.

4 FireGlobe by Eva Solo
This sculptural outdoor fireplace by Eva Solo is both a decorative piece and a sleek alternative to a fire pit on cool nights. Its domed shape protects it from extinguishing winds and a grid in the bottom provides proper ventilation. A handle makes it easy to transport this portable unit.

5 Cottage daybed
You could take your summer siesta in an Adirondack chair on the dock. Or you could climb inside the Cottage by Kettal — a double daybed beneath a slatted cabana that lets warm breezes and dappled light flow in. The incline of the bed’s backrest is adjustable, allowing for upright or completely reclined positions, and the Cottage’s sheer curtains can be pulled across both sides of the cabana, increasing shade and privacy. Its aluminum frame can be customized with more than two dozen colourful finishes.
