If you can’t get to sunny Greece in the coming months — and, let’s face it, most of us won’t — don’t fret: Benjamin Moore has you covered. The paint brand’s hotly anticipated 2021 Colour of the Year, just revealed, is Aegean Teal, “an intriguing blue-green that creates natural harmony and invites us to reflect and reset.” Not to mention to travel, stylistically and metaphorically, without setting foot outside.

“The colours we surround ourselves with can have a powerful impact on our emotions and wellbeing,” says Andrea Magno, Benjamin Moore Director of Colour Marketing and Development. “Aegean Teal 2136-40 and the corresponding Colour Trends 2021 palette express a welcoming, lived-in quality that celebrates the connections and real moments that take place within the home.”

Among the 12 colours in the 2021 palette, Aegean Teal is an exotic outlier in a tonal range “rooted in the elegant, handspun textures of the home.” These most obviously include Muslin OC-12, Beacon Hill Damask HC-2, Gray Cashmere 2138-60 and Potters Clay CC-360.

Some of the remaining hues, meanwhile, are as evocative of place as the teal. Think Amazon Soil 2115-30, Kingsport Gray HC-86 and Chestertown Buff HC-9.

The rest is rounded out by “warm, sunbaked hues that play to the senses.” Enter Rosy Peach 2089-20, Atrium White OC-145, Foggy Morning 2106-70 and Silhouette AF-655.

“Amid uncertainty, people yearn for stability,” notes Magno, referring to the main rationale behind the 2021 palette. According to the company, which was founded in 1883, the 12 colours were “thoughtfully chosen for their modernity as much as their time-tested appeal.” And indeed, they work well in tandem to create fresh combos, grounding and accentuating each other in multiple ways, resisting the clichés of Mediterranean or New England style in the process.

“The 12 hues in the Colour Trends 2021 palette,” Benjamin Moore concludes, “provide an easy starting point for homeowners to revitalize their spaces in unique ways.”

For the time being, it seems, the actual Aegean will have to wait. In the interim, though, there’s Aegean Teal.

The transporting blue-green punctuates a forward-looking tonal palette designed to recharge and inspire from the comforts of home.
