For seasoned designers and homeowners alike, colour selection can make or break a project. From endless sample swatches and phone screens held up against the wall to the chiselled bits of substrate used for in-store colour-matching, the process of choosing – and matching – paint tones can be labour-intensive, often involving an uncomfortable degree of guesswork. It doesn’t have to be that way. Thanks to a pair of innovations by industry leader Benjamin Moore, expert-grade colour selection tools are now available to design professionals on their mobile devices.
Launched this year, Benjamin Moore’s Color Portfolio app and integrated ColorReader device together enable a faster, more seamless and reliable selection process.
Compatible with both iOS and Android, the Color Portfolio app supplements physical colour tools with augmented reality. Featuring a comprehensive virtual fan deck as well as accurate photo and video visualizers and renderings, the free app is complete with an inspiration gallery of images to help spark the design process.
While the app’s virtual fan deck offers a scroll-through of Benjamin Moore’s comprehensive portfolio, the photo visualizer allows users to “try on” a variety of tones by tapping a surface for instant masking. The selections can be saved and instantly shared, streamlining the design and selection process. An even more immersive option, the video visualizer harnesses augmented reality to apply colour to surfaces in real-time.
The app is complemented by the Benjamin Moore ColorReader. Developed in collaboration with industry innovator Datacolor, the device offers precise colour measurements, as well as colour-matching with the company’s full portfolio of over 3,500 colours. Harnessing the full spectrum of Benjamin Moore colours on the go, the ColorReader is also available in a Pro version that displays colour matches on the device’s OLED screen for greater convenience.
“As a leading colour authority, Benjamin Moore is committed to providing its customers with innovative tools and resources like the Color Portfolio app and ColorReader device that enable them to work more efficiently,” says Andrea Magno, Benjamin Moore Director of Colour Marketing and Development.
“From providing professional users with immediate visuals for clients to helping homeowners feel confident in their colour choices, this innovative technology provides instant results and removes some of the guesswork from the colour selection process,” says Magno. The end result is a faster, easier and more reliable way to strike the perfect tone.
