Last year, as part of its “Here, there, everywhere” lab series, Droog teamed up with Tim Antoniuk, head of the University of Alberta’s industrial design department, and a small contingent of Dutch and Canadian designers.

Together, they traveled to Nunavut for 10 days, bringing back with them novel approaches to everyday life. Inspired by the Inuit practice of sharing large mammals with the entire community, Canadian designer Cynthia Hathaway will present XXL City, her idea for feeding whole neighbourhoods by growing giant food. The discussion’s participants include Antoniuk, along with Renny Ramakers, co-founder and director of Droog; Agata Jaworska, Droog content manager; and Mark Gorgolewski, a professor at Ryerson University’s architecture school and Centre for Studies in Food Security. The talk will be followed by a tasting of giant pumpkins.

There are limited, first-come first-served spots for the event, which will be included in a book on the lab series to be published in 2012.
