The bathroom is a place of calm, respite — and personality. While soothing and sanitary retreats are a priority for any well-designed loo, a tranquil ambiance doesn’t have to come at the expense of expression. Case in point? Fantini. For over half a century, the renowned Italian company has combined elegant, high-performance product design with a playful sensibility that enlivens — and even defines — the whole space.

For Fantini, a pop of colour and personality remains an aesthetic signature. It started with the groundbreaking I Balocchi collection; the first series of colourful taps to enjoy widespread success on the market. Designed Davide Mercatali and Paolo Pedrizzetti, the vivid colours and playful, dynamic shapes make for an instantly iconic aesthetic — one that still makes for a fresh and vibrant presence today.

Reissued in 2012, the collection was subtly updated with streamlined, contemporary details, along with a wealth of colourways that suit a wide range of styles. What’s more, a portion of the sales of the I Balocchi series contributed to the company’s 100 Fontane: Fantini for Africa initiative, which funded the construction of an aqueduct in Masango, Burundi, that brings clean water to some 25,000 people.

The Venezia collection is another vibrant standout. Designed by Matteo Thun and Antonio Rodriguez, the refined taps and faucets are a showpiece in Murano glass. Defined by an interplay of depth and transparency, the series has expanded to include eye-catching hexagon-shaped faucets, as well as cylindrical Murano glass handles with a mesmerizing two-tone swirl of colour.

New filigree handles also bring even greater variety to the Venezia series, infusing thin glass rods into the glass to create a graceful lace effect. While the collection’s many variations offer designers unencumbered creative freedom, Thun and Rodriguez’s stately geometry anchors every piece in the series with sophisticated simplicity.

Another Thun and Rodriguez collaboration, the recent Nice collection is a symphony of colours. As with Venezia, the luxurious simplicity of elemental glass forms is paired with an assertive range of hues, with options including white, red, black, blue, turquoise and green.

The interplay of sleek, tactile glass and vivid translucent tones combines for a singularly bold yet timelessly elegant presence. In other words, it’s signature Fantini.
