The home means more than ever. In a year that’s brought more of our daily lives into the household than ever before, the importance of living space has never been greater. And while our living spaces now double as offices, gyms and more, gardens and backyards have also become vital conduits for social life. For Minotti, it’s a reality that underscores the functional elegance – and tasteful cohesion – of its new indoor and outdoor collections.
Coordinated by Rodolfo Dordoni in collaboration with the company’s own Minotti Studio, the 2020 Collection epitomizes the graceful sophistication of Minotti’s signature classic-modern aesthetic. The understated yet undeniably stylish indoor series is complemented by outdoor furnishings that seamlessly translate the Minotti look to more casual settings that welcome social life.
A veneration of couture craft and visual purity unites Minotti’s diverse range of furnishings. Designs by the likes of Dordoni, Nendo, Marcio Kogan / studio mk27, Christophe Delcourt and GamFratesi lend both indoor and outdoor collections a rich versatility, with the range of design inspirations make for pieces well-suited to indoor and al fresco living at every latitude across Europe, the Americas and Asia.
Dordoni’s Connery indoor seating system is a subtle standout. Channelling the subtly playful energy of mid-century American design, the sofas offer an opportunity to pair square and round chaise-lounges into an eye-catching sectional. Connery’s padded base can be upholstered in a wide range of fabrics or leathers refined with the same techniques used in fine leather luggage-crafting, a concept also found in the freely adjustable headrests and in the elegant Flap shelves.
The Blazer seating system is another Dordoni design and another elegantly understated statement piece. A showcase of artisanal stitching – which creates a matelassé effect across the body of each piece – the Blazer series is almost sartorial in its presence. The backrest with rounded internal corners is another defining feature, creating a comfortable, enveloping niche that transforms the chaise-longue into a welcoming alcove.
Designed by Nendo, Minotti’s Torii seating system offers pared down simplicity elevated by exceptionally well-considered details. Its slim backrest is enhanced by vertical quilting that highlights its softness, along with eco-leather or eco-nabuk piping defining its silhouette to underline the couture quality of the craftsmanship. Inspired by the eponymous “torii” entrance gates to Japan’s Shinto shrines, the new line of sofas, armchairs and ottomans – as well coffee tables and console tables – also borrow from the Japanese Kigumi tradition of wood construction to create a stable yet visually delicate base.
GamFratesi’s design looks to Scandinavia. Drawing on Nordic cabinet-making tradition, the Fynn seating collection is distinguished by its elongated and artfully curved armrests. Entirely handmade, the armrests boast a precise, well-defined line. Available in a variety of formats and finishes – including a luxe saddle-hide option – the series is rounded out by footstools and benches, as well as coffee tables featuring Fynn’s signature curves. It makes for an elegantly cohesive collection – and one that’s also available outdoor-ready.
Complementing the indoor series, Fynn Outdoor‘s seating offers a hardier variation on GamFratesi’s sleek design. A solid teak structure and an ultra-light frame woven with wicker-effect cords make for a durable seating collection that stands up to the outdoor life. A 100 per cent teak dining table completes the outdoor collection, subtly evoking the sinuous Fynn contours in its pared down design.
Brazilian architect Marcio Kogan and studio mk27’s Daiki armchairs are another indoor-outdoor standout. A fusion of mid-century American style and Japanese minimalism, Daiki’s curved shell, in palisander Santos or flamed ash veneer with Liquorice colour lacquer, comprises two elements joined at a 45 degree angle, with a sloping backrest for maximum comfort.
In the outdoor version, Daiki’s solid teak shell offers a snug fit for the stitched cushions, and is set on a stainless-steel frame with varnished polished legs.
No living room is complete without a sofa. En plein air, Dordoni’s Sunray delivers in some style. Channelling the sophistication of Minotti’s indoor pieces, the Sunray outdoor seating system conveys a relaxed and intimate ambiance. Comprised of a sofa, armchair, chaise-longue, loveseat and daybed – as well as coffee tables – Sunray introduces a graceful touch to any space. It makes for another marquee element in Minotti’s standout 2020 Collection.
From living and dining rooms to gardens, Minotti’s new furnishings are tailor-made for life in 2020 – and beyond. In a year like no other, the celebrated furniture manufacturer has offered up a global outlook with a distinctly Italian flair.
