Our July/August issue, now on newsstands, shines a spotlight on the fifth annual AZ Awards. The 19 winners were chosen from a staggering 720 international entries and announced on Friday, June 19, at our gala celebration at Toronto’s Evergreen Brick Works. Inside this special issue, we present the stories behind all the finalists – including the jury-selected architecture, interiors and products and the People’s Choice picks.
For the first time, this year’s competition included the Social Good Award and the Environmental Leadership Award, which rewarded three wonderful projects – Toigetation, in Vietnam; the Fogo Island Inn in Canada; and Memory of the Arctic – that give back to their communities and demonstrate a sensitivity to the environment.
Also in this issue, contributing editor Tim McKeough takes us inside the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York. Located at the southern tip of Manhattan’s High Line, the massive, industrial structure by Renzo Piano belies its gracious and beautiful interiors.
We also bring together the coolest concepts, products and materials for re-imagining the bathroom; our favourite finds from the Milan Furniture Fair; and bold contract furniture to spice up minimalist office spaces. And we catch up with architect Ma Yansong, founder of Beijing’s radical MAD studio.
The July/August 2015 issue is on newsstands now in Canada, and on June 29 in the U.S.
