This year’s AZ Awards competition received a record-breaking 1,117 submissions from architecture firms, designers and manufacturers across 50 countries. On June 21, top A&D insiders gathered at Toronto’s historic Evergreen Brick Works to fête the 20 winners, selected by our international jury of industry professionals. Our July/August AZ Awards issue details those projects – from a groundbreaking seaside museum in China to a graceful central library in Finland, from an elegant new sofa by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec to a stunning cantilevered addition for a heritage building in Ontario – while honouring the 48 Award of Merit recipients and revealing the ever-popular People’s Choice selections.
Plus, we share what had us inspired during Milan Design Week, from Olafur Eliasson’s boundary-pushing OE Quasi light (and other delights from Euroluce) and a light-as-air magnesium chair by Magis. We also put the Bauhaus under the microscope.
Also in the AZ Awards Issue:
Small-space projects, insight from top hospitality insider Jimi Yui, stylish new systems and more.
BRIGHT LIGHTS
Decorative lighting that stole the show at Euroluce.
SURFACE APPEAL
