Can a plywood box transform the workplace? Teknion Bene Box promises just that. The stackable box can become a bench, a table, a desk, a cabinet, or a platform. With its innovative design flexibility, Teknion‘s new system supports a collaborative and open work culture.

Created in collaboration with European office furnishings company Bene, the modular system can be arranged and re-arranged to suit any context.

“Teknion Bene Box deconstructs the concept of what furniture is, and ought to be,” says Ally Ramsay, Director, Product Management, Core Products, Teknion. “It’s the ideal multi-functional modular furnishing system, combining desks, tables, stools, shelves and storage space to create flexible options for any room, and for an entire floor plan.”

Available with optional storage openings, the lightweight boxes can easily be moved, stacked, and shuffled. Carry handles can also be used to connect boxes, while glides provide stability when stacking the boxes. Topped with a soft pad, a single box can provide informal seating, while multiple boxes can quickly be configured to create desks – or standing workstations.

The ease of adaptability allows a meeting room to quickly be transformed into a group of workstations, or a presentation area. For workplaces, the ability to integrate a wide – and constantly evolving – variety of uses into a single space offers welcome flexibility.

The space-saving design also reinforces a communal and non-hierarchical workplace culture. Every space, whether private or shared, is assembled and disassembled from the same building blocks. Bene Box adds an unassuming, fun and informal aesthetic and function to more traditional office environments.

It looks good too. The deceptively simple design pairs impressive functionality with refreshing aesthetic clarity. While the pine plywood conveys a decidedly informal look, the simplicity of the design creates quietly elegant spaces that fit a professional context.

Introduced at NeoCon 2019, Teknion Bene Box was recognized with a NeoCon Innovation Award in the Furniture Collections for Collaboration category.

In a fast-evolving professional ecosystem, the nimble and unpretentious design can adapt just as quickly. Ramsay sums it up succinctly: “It isn’t just how they are made, it’s what you make with them.”
