The Banaue Lodge Architecture Competition encourages participants to design a type of accommodation that fits perfectly into the context of the Banaue Rice Terraces. The competition is focused on the idea of promoting a kind of slow and sustainable tourism, capable not only of respecting local traditions but also of guaranteeing care for the environment.
Currently, there are only a couple of small sleeping structures within the Batad village that accommodate overnight tourists. The idea is to complement these existing services, providing an alternative option for backpackers intent on spending the night and to foster meaningful connections with the local community.
The key is to analyze the landscape, the local materials, colours and textures, in order to translate the most significant characteristics into essential architectures able to enhance the natural context. Contestants are therefore asked to envision creative proposals focused on a unique and unconventional type of lodging structure capable of redefining accommodation options for hikers. By incorporating sustainable materials, local construction techniques and efficient design solutions, the envisioned cabins will serve as models of environmentally responsible tourism development.

- Environmental impact
- Graphic representation
- Projects that express a special sensitivity towards landscape design and quality architectural solutions will be highly appreciated
Reaching deep technical-constructive details will not be considered extremely important in the evaluation process.
Eligibility:
- The competitions are open to students, architects, designers, urbanists, engineers, artists, makers, activists and anyone interested in the design and architecture fields. The participant must be at least 18 years old;
- Participants can join the competition either individually or in team. There is no restriction or limit to the number of members that can compose a team.
- Teams can be made up of members of different nationalities and ages, but all members must be at least 18 years old. The list of the team members cannot be changed after the submission;
