Cibin Market Urban Regeneration

The Order of Architects in Romania and the The Municipality of Sibiu announce the launch of the international design competition for the Urban Regeneration of the Cibin Market Area.

This competition will select the best project for the urban regeneration of the Cibin Market Area in Sibiu, Romania.

The process of the urban regeneration of the Cibin Market acts on three levels. Firstly, it aims to redesign the area to include functions complementary to Cibin Market’s role as an agri-food market. Secondly, it brings into question the historical value of this area and how the proposed insertions enhance it. Finally, it seeks to optimize the relationship of this area with the historic center and the Cibin river by increasing the quality of the public spaces.

The competition area is located at the North-Western edge of the historic center of Sibiu, near the Cibin River. It consists of the site of the Cibin Market, together with the adjacent streets that border it, as well as the streets that connect this site to the historic core and the cross-connection between them.

Submissions will be assessed by an international panel of architects. The winning submission will be awarded a design services contract with an estimated value of 3,734,608 LEI (without VAT). Second and third place submissions will be awarded 113,770 LEI and 56,885 LEI (including VAT) respectively.

Further details on submission requirements and competition rules are available on the competition site.
